Health Checks

Health Checks

Today’s pets are living longer than ever which means the chances are that many may experience a potentially serious illness during their lifetime. Annual health checks can help your veterinarian diagnose, treat or even prevent problems before they become life-threatening. They’re also a great opportunity to ask us about nutrition, behaviour or any other issues.

We highly recommend an annual blood and urine test for all animals and twice a year testing for all senior pets. Pets hide disease and early detection is key, therefore and annual blood and urine test is the way to go to ensure a long and happy life for your pet.

Surgery

Our veterinarians’ high level of expertise and our practice’s fully equipped surgical suite allows us to perform the vast majority of soft tissue surgical procedures as well as orthopaedic procedures like cruciate ligament surgeries. Soft tissue surgery encompasses any surgery that is not related to bones. It includes procedures such as desexing, caesareans, lump removals, biopsies, wound stitch-ups, removal of intestinal foreign bodies – the list is endless!

Desexing

Desexing

Desexing or neutering your pet is a surgical procedure that prevents them from being able to reproduce. In male pets it is commonly referred to as “castration”, and in female pets as “spaying”. We recommend desexing of dogs and cats between 4 and 6 months of age.

We offer a FREE health check before booking a desexing procedure to ensure anaesthetic safety for your pet and discuss any concerns you may have prior to the surgery date. All our surgery cases receive intravenous fluids, full anaesthetic monitoring and pain relief. We recommend pre-anaesthetic bloods for all patients requiring surgery.

Dentistry

Just like humans, pets’ teeth need looking after too! The health of their teeth and gum’s has a significant impact on their overall quality of life. Imagine how your mouth would feel, and smell, if you never brushed your teeth. Imagine having a really bad toothache and not being able to tell anyone about it! If your pet is showing any signs of dental disease book an appointment to see one of our veterinarians. Early assessment and action can save your pet’s teeth!

In-House Laboratory

Cherry Court Vet Clinic is equipped with an in-house laboratory that allows our veterinarians to quickly perform many diagnostic tests to achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis. This is especially important in very ill animals and those requiring immediate or emergency treatment. Some more specialised tests like histopathology may need to be performed by an external veterinary laboratory. Most blood tests done in our in-house laboratory take as little as 20 minutes.

X-rays and Ultrasounds

Our hospital is fully equipped to take radiographs (often called X-rays) of your pet. Our veterinarians will discuss your pet’s case and conduct a thorough physical examination to determine if your pet requires radiographs. Radiographs are a very important tool to help us diagnose diseases in animals, particularly for conditions involving bones, the chest or abdomen.

We have our own ultrasound machine and offer heart and abdominal ultrasounds in hospital. Ultrasounds help us to diagnose and stage heart disease, kidney and liver disease, endocrine disorders like Cushings and even visualise cancer. We also use ultrasound for pregnancy diagnosis, searching for bladder stones and sometimes swallowed foreign objects and toys that got stuck.

Puppy Preschool

Puppy Pre-School

Congratulations! You have made one of the biggest decisions of your life: to get a puppy.

This small bundle of joy will become a huge part of your life and you will share a bond like no other for the next 10+ years. When you invest in proper, effective training early in your puppy's life, it will help make daily life easier, less stressful, and more enjoyable and create a deeper bond between you both, now and always.

Puppy school classes are all about socializing, training, learning and creating that magical bond between pup and owner. Classes are kept small so that time can be spent with each puppy and their owners. Each course will also dedicate time to covering any individual problems and questions from owners.

Why choose Cherry Court Vet Clinic for Puppy School?

  • We provide exceptional training, care, and education to both owners and puppies.
  • We believe that socializing and training a dog early in life will result in a better- mannered, respectful family member, and a more calm and relaxed home environment.
  • We take pride in a clean, safe, and loving environment for puppies to learn, play, and grow in.
  • We believe in positive reinforcement as the best and most effective method for successful training.
  • We are passionate about what we do and continue to grow through learning, and educating our staff, our clients, and ourselves.

Microchipping

Microchipping is now compulsory for all dogs and cats. Microchipping is a reliable way of permanently identifying your pet. This means a quick return to you if they are lost. A microchip is implanted quickly and easily during a routine consultation without the need for any type of sedation. This involves injecting a rice grain sized implant under the skin.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations

Vaccination has revolutionised control of infectious disease in our pets. It is essential that all pets are adequately vaccinated to help protect the pet population as a whole.

Responsible pet care requires puppies and kittens to be given their initial course of vaccinations, but this cannot protect them for the rest of their lives. Adult pets require regular vaccination to maintain immunity against disease.

We recommend vaccinating puppies and kittens at:

  • 6-8 weeks - Initial Vacination
  • 10-12 weeks - Second Vaccination
  • 12-14 weeks - Final Vaccintion

We also offer title testing for Distemper and Parvo virus in adult dogs.

Pet Behaviour

Behavioural problems can be due to behavioural causes, medical causes, or both. Our veterinarians will investigate behavioural problems by obtaining a full history and conducting a full examination (sometimes your pet may require blood or urine tests to rule out underlying medical conditions) to accurately diagnose a problem. Behavioural problems are often the combined effect of many factors, including your pet’s environment and learning.

Cat And Dog

Parasite Control

Worming is one of the first health care issues pet owners need to address as pups and kittens are the most susceptible. Most species of animal, as well as humans, can be infected with intestinal worms including dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, fish, birds and reptiles.

Deworming recommendation for puppies and kittens:

  • Every 2 weeks until 12 weeks of age.
  • Then monthly until 6 months of age.
  • Then every 3 months for all adult pets.

We also recommend having your pets on regular flea and heartworm prevention from 3 months of age.

With so many product available we recommend giving us a call to discuss the best product for your pet.

Senior Pet Care

We have a passion for our golden oldies. These days it is common for them to age to a healthy 14 to 18 years and we would like their last years to be their best years.

Each patient is unique and we treat all of them holistically. When we work with our senior patients, not only do we look at nutrition, weight and arthritis, but we also look at dental care, heart disease, cancer and lumps and blood tests to pick up any underlying problems. If your pet is "looking old", chances are that he or she is struggling with pain and arthritis that can easily be managed these days. We offer a vast range of treatment options making sure we get the best results for your pet.

Our anaesthetics are also very safe for senior pets and we have a lot of experience with difficult surgeries and tricky anaesthetics. We monitor all our patients while under anaesthetic with the use of sophisticated apparatus to ensure a safe anaesthetic and recovery.
